Ruffles and Pink are for Girls

Posted on July 24, 2010 at 10:55 AM

A good friend is having a baby girl in September so I wanted to make her a special, girly blanket.   I looked at many patterns and projects and finally decided to create a blanket using the Snapdragon Stitch.

This is the "recipe" I used to create this blanket.

J Hook

Approx. 1200 yards worsted weight yarn,  I used Lion Brand Cotton Ease.  This is approx. 6.2 skeins or about 22 oz.; 3.89 skeins pink, 2.29 skeins white and 1/2 skein stone.

Chain 149

76 Snapdragon Pattern Rows

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10 Rows Pink
 5 Rows White
 2 Rows Stone
 5 Rows White
10 Rows Pink
 5 Rows White
 2 Rows Stone
 5 Rows White
10 Rows Pink
 5 Rows White
 2 Rows Stone
 5 Rows White
10 Rows Pink
Continuing with pink, do 3 Rows sc, evenly spaced, around the outside edge of the blanket, doing sc, ch 2, sc in each corner.
1 Row of Ruffles, I alternated 3 and 2 dc in each sc around, doing 5 dc in each ch 2 sp of each corner.   I would have done 3 in each, but I would not have had enough yarn.
That is all there is to making your own Ruffled Snapdragon Baby Blanket.   The finished size of this blanket is 36" W x 40 " L, but I tend to crochet a tight stitch.
Hi Cathy! Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful patterns! I love the " ruffled snapdragon baby blanket" I was wondering if you knew about how many ounces of each color you used in this? I plan on making this for my new granddaughter!! : ) Thank you so much!!
Love this pattern! Just finished making it for my daughter. Would love to see a few more details. How many ounces of yarn did you use, etc.? Had to do some research to be able to finish the pattern, but so pleased all-in-all! Thanks so much! BTW, I used approx. 31oz of yarn total: Vanna's Choice--baby. I also have a very loose stitch.
@Angel...I am not sure what you had to research to finish the blanket as you didn't say.
As stated above I used approx 1200 yds. of Lion Brand Cotton Ease, which is approx 22 oz or 6.2 skeins of Lion Brand Cotton Ease. That breaks down to 3.89 skeins (13.75 oz) pink, 2.29 skeins (8.08 oz.) white and 1/2 skein (1.76 oz) stone.
I'm sorry. I'm a beginner as well... what stitch did you use for the actual rows? I'm not seeing that in the pattern here. Did I miss that?
Did you really make this with 4 skeins of the pink?? I bought 4 and I ran out with 2 sides still needing ruffle :( I even do very tight stitches. Hopefully I can get away with buying another skein and have the dye lot match.
You also don't mention how to finish the last row and maybe that's what Angel meant. After the last row of pink you have to do a row of (sc, ch 3) repeats. Well, at least that's what I did!
Thank you so much for the pattern.I volunteer for Second Harvest here in Salmon Arm B.C. I'm alway's looking for pattern (hat's, baby blanket's ,toque's) .Anything like that that Ican crochet for those who come in the winter for extra food to get by until pay day. I have friend,s who donate left over yarn so that I can keep up ,and other lady's who have decided to join me with their knitting and crochet. This blanket will make a little one warm and cozy .Thank you again .Cathy C.
when you say 10 rows pink, etc....it really means each row is actually 5 rows of stiching to make a snapdragon row, correct? thank you.
No that is not what it means. It is not 5 rows of stitching to make a snapdragon row. The snapdragons are made of 5 stitches (dc) but a row is a row.
"Continuing with pink, do 3 Rows sc, evenly spaced, around the outside edge of the blanket, doing sc, ch 2, sc in each corner.
What are the directions for the "SnapdragonStitch". I printed the directions but didn't receive the pattern for rows of stitches.
For the ruffle it says 3 rows of sc evenly spaced. Does that mean not in every stitch? Also it says alternate 3 and 2 dc in each DC around. Didn't we just do 3 rows of SC? What am I missing? Can anyone help? Thanks!
