Color Blocked Stripes Baby Blanket

Posted on March 9, 2010 at 12:02 PM

I recently finished this baby blanket and thought I would share the "pattern" that I came up with as I was making it.

The finished size is, 33" x 37".

I used Lion Brand Cotton Ease [Blue: 3-1/2 skeins (725 yds), White: 1-1/2 skeins (311 yds), Lime: 3/8 skein (79 yds)], but any medium weight yarn would work.

J (6 mm) Hook  (roughly 7 pattern rows & 14 stitches = 4")

sc, dc alternating stitch pattern

Chain 108.

Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from hook, dc into next ch and repeat alternating across row, ending with sc. (107 st)

Row 2: Turn, ch 2 (or 3), dc into sc, sc into dc, repeat across row.

Row 3: Turn, ch 1, sc into dc, dc into sc, repeat across row.

Rows 4 - 90: Repeat rows 2 and 3 following the color pattern.

Color pattern by rows:

Blue: 30

White: 3

Lime: 2

White: 3

Blue: 14

White: 3

Lime: 2

White: 3

Blue: 30

Border:

White: 1 row sc, 1 row dc, 1 row sc

Lime: 2 rows sc

White: 1 row sc, 1 row dc, 1 row sc

Blue: 1 row reverse sc

This is really beautiful. I love that it is in colors other than the pastels so often used. This looks like a blanket that will grow well with baby!

I am a beginner with crocheting, but I'm going to give this a try for my nephew! I really like that it seems simple, but still very cute!

I'm a beginner crocheter and would like to try this. The border instructions just have minimal instructions of what kind of stitches to use. Don't you have to do something to round the corners and go to the next row? Are there more complete border instructions? Thanks.

Good Afternoon Cathy! I love your color block striped blanket! The pattern was really easy to follow and looks great. I made my baby due in May one of these and one for a friends baby shower gift and just love the way it looks. I wanted to ask if I can sell finished products made from this pattern? I didn't want to do so without making sure it was okay. Thanks!

I decided to use I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby the main color took 4 skeins I am not sure why?! The only answer I can think of is that I crochet fairly loose it is also coming out quite a? bit larger than your measurements Any ideas?
